A properly fitted mouthguard is key to comfort and protection. If it feels loose, uncomfortable, or doesn't stay in place, it may need to be remolded. This guide applies specifically to boil & bite mouthguards, which are designed to be reshaped more than once.
When to Remold a Mouthguard
If your boil & bite mouthguard shifts, causes discomfort, or interferes with speech or breathing, the fit isn’t ideal. These are signs it should be remolded for a better fit. This applies whether you're an adult athlete or helping your child gear up safely.
How to Remold a Boil & Bite Mouthguard
The remolding process is similar to the initial fitting. In general, you’ll reheat the mouthguard in hot water, reshape it in the mouth, and then cool it to lock in the fit.
Important: Each boil & bite model may have slightly different instructions, including how long to boil the mouthguard and how to handle it. Always refer to the product-specific instructions to avoid damaging the material.
If the fit still isn’t right, the process can be repeated. High-quality mouthguards are built to be safely remolded several times.
